+Cory Lidle Foundation Event
Ok…So I made a New Year’s Resolution that I was going to get back to my blog. Well, that just shows you what a procrastinator I am since it is January 28th and I am just now doing it! Better late than never! I am going to do this at least once a week from now on…that is my resolution. And now that I am finally back to it, no excuses!
Today I went to a really wonderful event for the Cory Lidle Foundation benefiting Make-A-Wish. As many of you know, Cory Lidle was a player for the New York Yankees who’s plane crashed into a building in NYC about 6 months ago. He did a charity poker tournament each year fo the Make-A-Wish foundation and his friends and family decided the best way to honor his memory was to continue with the event. So I went to Hollywood Park today to play in it.
They raised a ton of money for his foundation, well over 60K. It was a fantastic event sponsored by the Ultimate Blackjack Tour and Bluff Magazine. I actually made it to the last three tables, even with the 20 minute blind structure! But it wasn’t about the poker anyway. It was about the foundation. And I have to say there were some of the nicest people there. Everyone was so jolly and we all really enjoyed ouselves. Cory’s whole family was there, including his wife, and they were all very gracious and very sweet. He really had a fantastic family. I enjoyed hanging out with them so much. And it turns out I met Cory in an airport last year. I didn’t even know it because I don’t really know anything at all about baseball. I met ARod once and had no idea who he was either. How embarrassing!
The highlight of the day happened when Russ Hamilton put a 100 buck bounty on Kasey Thomspon’s head. Kasey is the founder of All In magazine and he and Russ had a last longer bet. Kasey got draw to my table and I knocked him out and won the bounty! Sweet!
After I got knocked out, I rushed home to make dinner for the kids. This week it was Leo’s 9th birthday so on Wednesday he got a special dinner, anything he wanted. He chose fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and homemade brownies so that’s what we had. Well Lucy got jealous and wanted to pick a special dinner too. So I told her I would make that for her Friday and she chose homemade Mac and Cheese. So that’s what we had Friday. But then Nelly got jealous and wanted a special dinner so I told her I would make that Sunday. Well she chose eggs and bacon. I thought that was pretty funny but that is why I had to rush home so she didn’t feel left out.
Anyway, tomorrow morning I have a planning meeting for this big event Don Cheadle and I are hosting to benefit Darfur. I’ll tell you all about it in the next blog..tomorrow! But it is going to be an awesome event called Ante Up for Africa and we are so excited about it. Stay tuned….
