This weekend was tough. I moved into a new house and it did not at all go smoothly. Last fall I was looking around at open houses in my neighborhood when I found a really cute house that need a lot of work. The thing was it was about half the price of the house I was living in and the same square footage. It was just one of those houses that was a major fixer, but I love to do the fixing.
So Joe and I decided to go for it and take on the renovation project. We found a fantastic contractor here in LA named Graham Osborne. I think he is the best contractor ever because he did a whole house renovation, top to bottom, in 5 weeks! So this past weekend we were finally ready to move in.
I woke up Friday morning and looked at the truck the movers were loading into and immediately knew there was a problem. I said I would lay 4 to 1 that there was no way the truck would fit down the road we were moving onto. You see, we were only moving 6 minutes away from my old house but it was up higher in the Hills and the road is one lane and winding. Well, the movers assured me that the sales person fr the moving company had scoped it out and it would be fine so they loaded up the truck. Joe and I went off to stay out of the way.
So at about 2pm we get a call that the truck won’t fit down the road! I am told that they won’t be able to get a smaller truck till the next day so we are now homeless. The they offer us $150 credit for a hotel room. Well, in Hollywood, where we live, that will get us about a Motel 6 so of course we had to come out of pocket for the night to stay in a decent hotel with internet.
So Saturday we come back to the new house and things are finally being loaded in and we are all unpacking trying to get ready for my kids arrival at 8pm when my ex is dropping them back to me. We managed to get their rooms ready to sleep in before they got here, but obviously there was a ton of unpacking yet to do which I planned to do the bulk of on Sunday.
But Sunday I had to play the 200+15 tournament at UB.com. I started at 2pm and planned to play really loose so I could get knocked out quickly and get back to unpacking. I purposely got my money in bad over 5 times during the tournament but I couldn’t lose! Every time I thought I was going to get to start setting things up in my house I would hit whatever I needed to and all of a sudden I was chip leader!
My kids kept popping their heads in during the day to see when I would be done and I kept telling them, “Soon. I am playing really badly!” Well, don’t you know it, suddenly we are down to two tables and I decide I might as well try at that point. As soon as I started trying, I got dealt JJ when we were 5 handed and ran right into AA. I should have kept trying to get knocked out! Anyway, I ended up coming in 11th or 12th. I can’t remember exactly which. But I think the whole thing was pretty funny because I was trying so hard to lose
