+Mulholland is a creepy place today
My usual running route is along Mulholland drive but I rarely head west of Laurel. Today I was doing my long run (24 miles!) so I ran all the way to Benedict Canyon and, let me tell you, Mulholland Drive in LA is a creepy, creepy place today. Why? It is lined with paparazzi waiting for Britney Spears to emerge from her house. I mean lined all the way between Coldwater and Laurel, these creepy men in cars on some kind of stake out with the occassional helicopter flying overhead. Mike, my running soul mate, counted them and there are 24 vehicles staking out The Summit (where Britney lives). It certainly added something to the run today, not a good something, but something nonetheless.
Now, mind you, I am as fascinated by the whole Britney thing as anyone. And this whole new stuff with Osama Lufti alledgedly drugging her and cutting her phone lines and selling her out to the paparazzi is very fascinating, in a watching a train wreck kind of way. I admit it, I am rubbernecking.
I just hope the girl gets the help she needs. It is awful that she got released yesterday. Obviously she needs more help than that but you also can’t keep someone agains their will (that is a good thing) so hopefully she won’t die before she gets help. The whole thing is so, so sad (fascinating) but sad.
On to other things…so I ran 24 miles today in 3:42 minutes. That is a pretty good pace. I can hardly walk now but I am obviously on a good schedule for the marathon. Last week my knee gave out at mile 15 so I am happy my knee held up this week. Mike’s knees…that is another story. His gave out at mile 17 today. He insisted I keep running since he was fine to walk (last week I couldn’t even walk when it gave out). So I ran home then got in the car and came back for him. That meant that I ran the last 7 miles with no Clif Shot Bloks. No nutritional support meant the last 3 miles were really tough. My legs really gave out. But I made it and I am feeling really good about the marathon.
I am heading to London tomorrow to play in the Premier Poker League event there. That means playing every day for the next 7 days and it should be pretty fun. Joe can’t go because of his job but Glen is coming with me so I will have company.
All right, off to watch Project Runway!
