After the sad defeat of Barney Frank and Ron Paul’s bill this summer it looked bleak for our hopes of getting a hold on the publishing of the regulations for UIGEA. But today in a 30-17 vote in the House Financial Services Committee things really started to look up! HR 6870 passed!
Here is the link to the Poker Players Alliance Page that describes the bill and the victory today: http://pokerplayersalliance.org/headlines/2008/09/11/selected-coverage-of-hr6870-congressional-markup-hearing/
The bill now goes to the floor of the House for debate which is huge. It is also huge that the victory was resounding. Maybe these politicians are finally coming to their senses? Basically, all the bill is asking for is that the term “unlawful internet gaming” be defined. As it stands right now, Treasury is trying to publish regulations about an unlawful act without definining what that unlawful act is which puts a huge burden on the Nation’s financial institutions.
The passage of this legislation is a big, big victory.
