Mr. Flea, AKA Leo my son, turned 11 on Saturday. He is such a great kid he doesn’t even mind it that I call him Mr. Flea although he probably would be miffed to know I called him Mr. Flea here.
Anyway, he turned 11 last weekend and we had a whole host of festivities. First off, on Friday night, Joe and I took him out to Pinot Bistro which is one of our favorite restaurants on Ventura in Sherman Oaks. Definitely go try it if you have never been there and live in LA. It is super yummy and actually pretty reasonably priced. Anyway, we went there because Leo requested it (it was his birthday afterall) because he really wanted escargot for his birthday dinner. Yes. You heard me right. My 11 yr old requested escargot for his birthday dinner. It would be an understatement to describe Leo as an adventurous eater!
So the dinner was lovely. Leo got all dressed up in a suit and tie which was ridiculously adorable and we just had such a great time. Leo is becoming such an adult and he is just so wonderful to spend time with and talk to. It was really, really nice.
When we got back from dinner we lit the candles on the cake I had made and all sang happy birthday. Leo requested a peanut butter cake with chocolate frosting and crumbled Reeses Peanut Butter Cups in between the layers and on top of the cake. So, dammit, I made the little man what he wanted and, if I do say so myself, that cake was sick! Everyone loved it!
Now, the next day was the big day for Leo. He had originally requested to go to Six Flags but then my brother got tickets to the M-1 Global day of Reckoning out in Anaheim. Joe really wanted to go with Howard but I told him that we had promised Leo Six Flags so he could only go if Leo decided he wanted to go to the MMA fight instead. Lucky for Joe that was a pretty easy task. Leo was pretty excited when it turned out all his friends at school were green with jealously that Leo was getting to go to the fights!
So we met my brother and Lee Watkinson out at the Honda Center to watch the fights. Donald Trump was there so I went over and said hello to him. Trump was putting the event on in part so that explains why he was there.
The fights were awesome! There were some amazing knockouts (including in the championship match when fedor knocked out Arlovski) and some great submissions. I think only two fights went to decision. All in all it was pretty fantastic. And, it was raining that day anyway so Six Flags would have gotten cancelled regardless. See? It all works out in the end!
We are planning to take Leo to Six Flags this coming Saturday so he is getting his birthday wish anyway. Pretty awesome number 11 I think!
