+Joan Rivers Tweets: Hitler commentary continues
I guess I am naive. Here is the thing. As I watch the show, The Celebrity Apprentice, there are things I regret. I see my mistakes. I blog my mistakes. I see that I misjudged certain people in terms of how they acted to my face vs what they said behind my back. That is a cardinal sin for a poker player since I am supposed to read people well. There are things I have said on that show I wish I could take back. Why am I naive? Because I assume others on the show all feel the same way. But apparently not.
The one thing I was sure of was that Joan would regret the Hitler comparison once she saw the show. She is a Jew, after all. My father is Jewish. So I figured that when she saw that, she would cringe and decide she should have kept to the despicable and 16 personalities and white trash comments. All deeply personal but not nearly as offensive as referring to Hitler (or Mussolini or comparing choosing two cupcakes to Sophie’s Choice). And yet, Joan tweeted the following yesterday:
I just compared Annie to Hitler and I feel terrible. My apologies to Hitler.
Referring once again to Godwin’s Law, I have nothing more to say.
Trump took himself off the board of directors of his casino immediately before they filed for bankruptcy. As if that would make him appear distanced from their financial failure. Noone who has seen him on this season would believe anyone but him called the shots at his failed casino.
As for your taking a hard look at your mistakes; HUH? You went on the show to raise money for charity. You played to win. You selected your charity on the basis of THEIR GENUINE NEED not on if all americans would choose that same charity. The Rivers are a bunch of sickies, their charity is not. I would have felt like killing myself too if I had to crawl out of bed each morning a face those two nutjobs. Go back to your life and your family. Be happy and raise your kids to have the kind of mind you demonstrated on 1 vs 100. Stay away from Trump-he used you to pump up his failing show. You and Jesse were the only reason I punished myself by watching that train wreck. Jeopardy would have treated you with dignity.
The poor drag impersonators-having their image linked with has-been and a never-was.
The fix was always in-you know better than to play with creeps with marked cards.
Go back to running with a more desirable crowd.
Joan Rivers is just terrible for saying all those mean comments about Annie. I have lost respect for Rivers. I think that Annie’s overall performance was so much better and her silent auction was better. Trump made a mistake. I think he picked Joan Rivers because of her celebrity status. It’s disappointing, I don’t think I’ll watch the show next season.
Annie I would rather have seen anyone win than you. Joan never made excuses for her behavior or lied about it. She has made a career out of being obnoxious. You on the other hand are very two faced. You pretend to be such a nice person. You are not. Just because you “say” you regret saying something doesn’t make it so.
Annie is honest, enthusiastic, and did a fabulous job. She was treated rudely, by Joan and Melissa, who created all the false drama. Must be good for ratings! Even though Joan was the loser, she won- T-Rump has his own agenda, and it is transparently nothing to do with what should be a professional show.
I was a huge fan of the Celebrity Apprentice. As a public relations professional, it was intelligent, provocative and always unexpected. Most of all it was a game that was so much fun to watch. Annie Duke upped it to an even better level. Last night, Joan River’s win ended my association with Celebrity Apprentice. We watched the final episode like it was a train wreck. Since when does the best game player lose? When is it OK to launch personal attacks? When is it OK to mistreat an event planner on national TV and then be supported by Trump when Annie brought it out. Now I know why Melissa and Joan Rivers were fired from TV. They are spoiled, rude, nasty, unprofessional and throughly immature. Watching Joan in a hair net serving up charity food was the most manipulative and pathetic thing I have ever seen on TV. Last night we watched the Celebrity Apprentice give up its intelligence and crossover into Jerry Springer TVQ. It lost us as viewers and Donald Trump lost our respect.Annie Duke is better off not associated with a program of that caliber.
What Wagner said.
This show proves that Trump is a joke. This isnt’ the first time that Trump ignores all basic understandings of the soft skills of business in making a dumb decision.
Annie, you showed extraordinary composure and professionalism in an environment that is a business version of the Jerry Springer show. Take heart in the fact that millions and millions of people woudl rather work with you anyday over an old hag who is amoral, despicable and downright nasty.
Annie, you were bullied, abused and mistreated by the Trump organization in its ability to manage what was going on, and they owe you a public apology.
You are an upcoming star not only in poker but life in general–while Joan Rivers’s victory here will be a blip in an already worthless life. Winning Celebrity Apprentice is like winning the high school homecoming election–it seems like the biggest thing in the world in the short term but in 10 years, classy people who were ignored make it big in the end.
After this year, I can’t believe that anyone in their right mind could possibly be a fan of this show. The treatment of the Joan River’s blowup is over the top. If I had known months ago that Annie and Joan were going to be in the finals I’d have been “All In” for Joan Rivers. I liked her as far as I knew her. But her behavior went beyond anything I could have dreamed up. The problem for some is that neither of these ladies were role model material. Annie’s mouth, under normal circumstances, would have done her in for me but she got a pass from me when Joan began her name calling. However, when Trump glossed over this and other celebs did also….well, that sealed the deal for me. I’ll not watch it any more no matter who is on there. That’s an easy decision.
What Wagner said. Trump is a bald headed cheater.
It was so fixed.
Clearly Trump is not comfortable with any woman more intelligent than he–which Annie obviously is. Comments from his son also indicated discomfort. Prior to this show, I had little to no opinion about Joan Rivers, but I now feel thoroughly disgusted by her behavior. Character assassination and name-calling are not elements of a “good game”. And then to top it off with lying (yes, Joan, you DID cause the designer to quit), while protesting such utter honorable behavior? I feel nauseous. How on earth is it possible that Annie Duke, who outplayed EVERYONE on EVERY level, and won by FAR, the most money for ALL the charities (not just her own) was not the winner? You have lost another viewer, Donald, for the next series. What a fix.
I had never even heard of Annie Duke when I started watching this season’s C.A., but I knew of Joan Rivers and her daughter. Critics, former comedian, jewelry line, etc., but did not hate her. Amazed at their behavior as each show went on, and disliked them more and more–and began to appreciate Annie and Brande more and more. Then, when the two divas lost their minds over nothing, and began to spew vile and ridiculous accusations at Annie, it became apparent that in order to get great ratings, the Donald would somehow find a way to make it a Rivers vs. Duke showdown. Last year, it was the celebrity who won the most challenges and raised the most money that won–as it should be. But this time, because that would have made Annie a no-brainer win, the Donald changed the paradigm and final task rules so that JR could win. It was pitiful. Annie was clearly the winner, just as Piers Morgan had been a clear winner. JR must have something on those guys. JR and her daughter were rewarded for nonsensical behaviour, unprofessionalism, childish paranoia, and liable. Too bad Annie is too smart and has too much class to sue–she’d have a case for sure, if that had been a real office situation. In any case, I’m done with C.A., as well. I had always respected DT, but now he’s clearly caved in to ratings. He has always given the boot to anyone who walked out or gave up–JR did that more than once this season, and she was handed the crown. Only Donald, Jr., Brande and Jesse had the wisdom and guts to speak truth to power last night.
Maybe someone has said this… but the calling someone Hitler would be disgusting and very offensive to the victims of the Holocaust. IMHO calling someone Hitler minimizes the horror that he committed. I think Ms. Rivers owes a whole bunch of people and apology. Does anyone else agree?
I have been a fan of Annie’s for a long time, so maybe my feelings are a little one sided, but I have no idea how poor performance and behavior can be rewarded. I guess bad play in poker is sometimes rewarded :O)
I think Wagner said it well. The show “Jumped the Shark” this season. I won’t watch anymore.
I couldn’t agree more with Wagner. Like you have absolutely no idea. I love (or I should say I used to love) the Apprentice but this angered me beyond belief. I had no personal ties to Annie Duke, had barely even heard of her, but watching the show I saw how great she did, and built up a huge respect for her. Hands down, she was the best player (most money, best win ratio, etc.)
Meanwhile Joan b**ched about her teammates, or about how people were treating her daughter badly. And then Joan “quit.” Hang on, didn’t someone get FIRED this season for simply volunteering to go into the boardroom? But Joan can quit and come back? Trump shows some clear bias there.
And then in the finale, Jesse, one of the nicest people on the show, told Dennis he was stupid for not realizing that he loved him. Trump got all offended and said “that’s not a good thing to say” or something like that. But he lets the Hitler references pass, and insulting the entire community of poker players, etc.
Whatever, in my opinion adding the “Celebrity” tag to the Apprentice has turned an exciting business themed show (or a rare gem) into a thinly veiled Jerry Springer rip off.
A foul mouthed old bitty with a connected charity. What more should we expect from the Rivers/Trump team ? I wonder how Kodak is feeling about the winner we all now get to associate with their dying business. That’s one company that really needs a fresh face, so maybe they’ll demand a recount ! Great job Annie D, despite the bad beat.
PS: the only white trash I saw on the show seemed to always have a last name of Rivers.
I think you really need to take a look at yourself and how you came off on the show. Obviously most people who follow you are going to tell you you were great, but you know what ? You werent. Your game playing tactics were all about self agrandizement. In the end you did what you were good for, brow beating your friends into donation money to your charity, which was great. But this greater picture in terms of the apprentice, was who would win overall and your tactics are that of a bulldog. You never hire the bulldog to run the show. You hire the bulldog to perform a function. Because of their tunnel vision, they arent qualified to be the overall supervisor so to speak. They are only good for one thing. That, would be you.
THE FIX WAS IN FROM THE DONALD.
Have you counted how many times you say “I” in the Celebrity Apprentice? You are soooo full of yourself. And, FYI, Trump engineered (behind the scenes) the event planner quitting. He always throws in a snafu to see how you will handle it, which wasn’t very well…you pointed fingers. Get over yourself.
I know this is an old thread and I’m likely posting into cyberspace but with the advent of the new Celebrity Apprentice, which opens with an appearance by Joan Rivers I was motivated to download her season and watch it. Going into this knowing who won I am constantly surprised by the eventual outcome. I am even more surprised to see any Annie Duke trash talk.
The reality of reality TV is that it is designed to paint people in the worst possible light to create drama, and to build heroes up so that viewers feel good when they win. It was obvious at every turn that the whole point to this season was to breathe life into Joan River’s flagging career so that she could carry her co-dependant daughter a little further in her useless life. From temper tantrums, and shattered wine glasses, storming out, and childish “I’m not listening” fingers in the ears, the Rivers hags are an embarassment.
I thought Annie Duke handled herself with class and aplomb in a difficult situation, despite an editing crew tasked with making her look bad to try and make Joan River’s behaviour seem more acceptable. Kudos to you Annie Duke.
Whew, it’s likely no one will read this, but I feel better for having written it! And thanks to downloading this season I won’t waste my time with the new season of the Celebrity Apprentice.
Annie,
You are all class, unfortunately, you chose to play in a game where the judge was against you. Clearly, Trump had a bias for Jones.
Enjoy watching you. Best of luck.
