I guess I am naive. Here is the thing. As I watch the show, The Celebrity Apprentice, there are things I regret. I see my mistakes. I blog my mistakes. I see that I misjudged certain people in terms of how they acted to my face vs what they said behind my back. That is a cardinal sin for a poker player since I am supposed to read people well. There are things I have said on that show I wish I could take back. Why am I naive? Because I assume others on the show all feel the same way. But apparently not.
The one thing I was sure of was that Joan would regret the Hitler comparison once she saw the show. She is a Jew, after all. My father is Jewish. So I figured that when she saw that, she would cringe and decide she should have kept to the despicable and 16 personalities and white trash comments. All deeply personal but not nearly as offensive as referring to Hitler (or Mussolini or comparing choosing two cupcakes to Sophie’s Choice). And yet, Joan tweeted the following yesterday:
I just compared Annie to Hitler and I feel terrible. My apologies to Hitler.
Referring once again to Godwin’s Law, I have nothing more to say.
very impressed with you annie, you’re a tough smart woman who doesn’t always make friends but if i was picking someone to work with or for you would be it. thanks for inspiring women everywhere. Makes us realize you can have it all!
Thank you for my smiley faces!
Oh Annie, you are a hyperactive, loud-mouthed gunch.
You’re right Joan-Melissa.
It seems the ONLY thing that Shelley is concerned with here is degrading other posters because they have opinions regarding certain topics–whether directly or indirectly related to the discussion at hand. In my bbs travels, over the years, I’ve seen quite a few posters like Shelley, sitting up on their pompous horse, criticizing others, while seemingly projecting the image that others have no right to do the same. Well, last time I looked, it was STILL a free country.
So, on we go! Gotta keep moving forward!
Annie, ty for a good season of Celebrity Apprentice. Each week I see you work hard to get the tasks complete. You seemed to hit a nerve with some people, my theory is that it’s still not perceived as being cool when a woman shows a good sense of confidence, brains and ego. Good luck with everything and gosh darnit I hope you win. PS I think you’ve shown a lot of restraint when it came to all the name calling certain people did against you.
a good friend of mine is fond of saying how his mother once told him that if one had nothing good to say about someone, say nothing. afterwards, when we’d be somewhere and someone else would say something rude or insulting or just plain stupid, he’d smile at me, shrug and say, “i’m speechless!”
on a far more positive note, though, i have to say that your support of the refugees of darfur choked me up. my daughter has spent the last several years of her collegiate life (go bears!) as a student leader of STAND, speaking out and lobbying for action in darfur to end the genocide. it is a cause near and dear to our hearts. bravo. bravo. bravo.
the absolute ridiculousness, incivility and sheer madness of ms. river’s statements are thrown into the realm of the absolute absurd by not only the … oh, why go on. i’m surprised the national news media has not picked up on these comments and that her career becomes a quickly fading memory.
Isn’t that ironic that a person whose charity is supporting victims of genocide, should be compared to “Hitler”? Something is seriously wrong with Joan Rivers.
Annie, I have to say I didn’t know who you were prior to the show, my husband did. I may not have agreed with all your behaviour on the show and sometimes even thought boot her off. I have always thought Joan is funny, entertaining and witty. She has always been a strong personality but after the last two episodes I am appauled at her comments. This is supposed to be a game and she is being far to personal. Attack credibility, behaviour, and actions but comparing you to the most gruesome human being ever to set foot on earth is a little over the top. I have become a fan of yours because of your character and I would much rather deal with someone who says it like it is when it matters. Yes you are an incredible poker player that can be deceptive when necessary but not to be harmful. My hats off to you and the way you are bravely handling the personal attacks. Keep your head up and in the game. I hope your the last player standing.
I find it odd (or interesting) that Mz Rivers Jr., has not updated her blog posts since April 13th.
http://www.fancast.com/blogs/author/mrivers/
(and her mother made 2 posts yesterday, the 21st, and dated them the 20th – hmmmm)
I’d sure like to ☎ young Mz Rivers and see wassup- she’s had no input on the last show.
☝ Interesting
Hi Annie
I just want to let you know (what you already have been told A LOT;)) that you’re one of the sexiest women out there. On top of that- very smart, which is not a common combination)) You should have a pity on that ugly relict that compared you with A.H. Her behavior is so low class, senile and pathetic all through the show- why pay attention? Dirty, tasteless jokes she’s famous for in certain circles- nothing more than that, really. I was watching those “crocodile tears” she squeezed in the Board room…Her obnoxious and even more unattractive daughter just not worth to mention))
Annie, just step over THAT.
One more thing. It is obvious that Annie is an asset to her team, while this “river’s duo” just steering the things up without much of contribution. D. Trump didn’t boot them only because of that “disturbing omarosa factor”- the one that show producers use to katalyze the ratings. Business is business- no matter how UGLY it might be;)
Ilse
You theory is wrong….the nerve she has hit has nothing to do with being a woman with good qualities (why would that not be “cool”?), it is because she is portrayed as being abrasive, self centered and a know it all.
What is a gunch??
Ken, being a Jew myself…AND knowing that Joan is a Jew, I am completely flummoxed that she could come out with a remark like that.
What on earth was she thinking?
How is a remark like that going to better the content of the show? AND dragging Annie’s mom into it…something is SERIOUSLY wrong with this woman’s thought process.
I just don’t get it.
Have we missed something here?
Annie, I am your newest fan! After the 3rd episode, I realized that you were the sharpest and most capable of all the celebrities on the show. What separated you from most of the others is that you took this show seriously. Refugees International is extremely fortunate to have you as their spokesperson. I think your strong desire to win is a positive for everyone because each time your team wins, the PM’s charity benefits!
There is no doubt that you are an oustanding “individual contributor” based on the way you played the game up until the Ivanka Trump auction task. I was actually wondering if you would excel as a leader since, as Trump had pointed out, you had never volunteered for PM. You are quite strategic in the way you are playing this game and I am very impressed with your abilities. The results of the auction task prove that you ARE a great leader!!! Like many of the other posters, I hope you win the Celebrity Apprentice! Lastly, because of your zeal in helping raise money for Refugees International, I am going to move this organization to the top of my charitable giving list!
Christian I was wondering the same thing (gunch) but didn’t bother to ask lol.
I see Natalie was in Vegas playing golf- she was here 22 hours ago anyway. I wonder if she and Annie touched base or they politely just went their separate ways. (Annie’s been in town for a tournament).
damnit why do i keep typing out “christian” when I see your name is “christina”
(smacks keyboard)
Annie
How dare that old hagg compare you to Hitler
Wow!! What a horrible person she must be.
How could she say that on TV, Is she that stupied
I guess her true colors are comming out. Yeah
Great Poker players have a way of brings out the
best in people and the worst. Her husband
killed himself. I wonder why if he had to live with her. You know that was really uncalled for, but then again so was her committs
about your mother. Yeah you are going to win -
Like you said you play games for a living.
Great Job Annie Duke
Annie for Apprentice or…Mr. Trump, you are FIRED!;)
Annie,
1. I respect you for your education and your skill in the game of poker.
2. I never knew much about Joan prior to the show and have 0 respect for her as a human.
3. I see what you do on the show is utilizing your psychology knowledge effectively and I view you as a adorable human that one should look up to to learn that skill set from.
4. I wish you much success in life and your family.
I kinda hope my 5 year old grows up to be Annie Duke
My apologies to Hitler? She needs to grow up. Get over it.
Joan Rivers is white trash. She may have money but she’s still trash.
Imagine, in the financial capital of the world, Joan Rivers can’t raise a dollar for Donald Trump’s charities BUT she does have a mouth on her.
Congrats to Annie for being a class act and not falling for the Hitler/Holocaust baiting of Rivers. Joan needs to have her mouth washed out with soap and then her buttocks warmed.
You go girl!
Why do you keep dwelling on it. If you were such a better person and you insinuate then you’d move on and worry about other things.
BTW, threatening to punch a 70+ year old woman is pretty pathetic in itself. Shame on YOU!
Still waiting to hear from someone to explain what a gunch is? Annie? Do you know what a gunch is? It is not in the dictionary. Just another moronic fan of team Rivers.
Ok. I just entered the word gunch into Merriam-Webster online. The respons was: The word you’ve entered isn’t in the dictionary. Click on a spelling suggestion below or try again using the search bar above.
So Team Rivers fans are making up words. Interesting. Maybe a gunch can be a person who calls other people names that are not in a dictionary. Used in a sentence “Fans of Joan River are gunches.” or melissa Rivers is a back stabbing, “mean girl” gunch.
Annie, it’s plain to see why Joan doesn’t like you very much, I have two words…she’s Jealous! Not only are you smarter, much much cuter, and sexier than she will ever be, you are better at business and you are stronger too. The Hitler comment was a low blow from a desperate soul looking to drag down somebody she will never measure up to. You are an inspiration to me, and many others. I hope you win the Apprentice, and even if you don’t win, I wish many more people had your business savvy, I wish many more people could be as amazing and able as you! No matter what happens though Annie I am still your biggest fan and behind you every step of the way!
‘Grow up’? Heck! The woman is 76 years old! If she hasn’t ‘grown up’ by now, she never will…lol!
I’m working myself up into a frenzy for preparation for Sunday’s show. If that gunch says anything else, I might just lose it.
I never thought I would be so entertained by Celebrity Apprentice. Annie, when are you going to have your own reality show? Your fans need an answer please?
If Annie ever does have her own reality show this is one person who’ll be watching EVERY SHOW!
Take that to the bank!
Better make room on your sofa for me…(I like popcorn). We’ll have a blast!
Christina,
You can enter any word into google, just type define gunch and you will get selections to choose from.
Looks like it’s a “urban term” and refers (as ex) “a girl who complains of being fat while eating a candy bar”
So gunches are the contestants on The Biggest Loser? I am sure Annie has never eaten a candy bar and thought she was a gunch. No fat on that woman!
Hey Sandy Brown!
We agree on something! It is a free country and even though you continue to judge my opinion on that HIGH self-righteous horse of yours it still remains unchanged. Your attempts to deflect the immature and extreme rude behaviour of others in regards to the death of Joan’s husband and her physical appearance by bashing me for observing it in the first place still doesn’t excuse it now does it?
I must have a hit a nerve.
gunch
No i think the interpretation of ‘gunch’ was meant to be looked at in a bigger picture of the sample- not literally
as for your 2nd posting, using it, lmao (wink)
Shelly said: “I must have a hit a nerve”.
Shelly, please, don’t flatter yourself! You haven’t BEGUN to hit any nerves with respect to me. Think what you may. It is not relevant to this discussion in my view.
It’s merely more pantywaist.
By the way, you STILL haven’t shown us how anyone here was ‘making fun’ of Joan’s husbands death as I requested a few posts back. You seem to conveniently ignore it. After all, YOU made the accusation so, the burden now rests on YOUR shoulders to produce the evidence to support your claim that you made, OR recant your claim.
Enjoy yourself!
Annie,You are so excellent! I love your performance! Always support! ^_^
Maybe I heard Rivers wrong, but when she said, or so I thought, that you would drown your mother in spit, or something to that effect, I thought that was off the scale, way worse than the senile old bat comparing you to Hitler.
The mental image disturbs me, and I’m a pretty vile person…
I’M SUCH A FAN!! YOU ROCK!!!
Annie– I think you are better then Joan and Melissa will ever be and always remember to keep your head held high and don’t let these clowns run all over you.. Annie you just run them over as fast and as hard as you can.. I love your poker playing atyle and one last thing Annie, I am going to use a quote from the apprentice.. Annie Duke , Your Hired”
SNEAK PEAK
http://www.hulu.com/watch/69126/celebrity-apprentice-melissa-confronts-brande#s-p1-sr-i1
Melissa confronts Brande in this 2 min video whining about how she knows that Brande and Annie are conspiring against her.
Melissa just comes off worse and worse with every episode sadly.
Annie, You are a 2faced person who has no integrity. You play well and show a good game face. Piers won last year and I don’t like Piers. I don’t like you so perhaps you will win.
I can never watch the show with my work schedule so i end up streaming it online. Watching you play the game is such a treat. It is obvious that you got where you are in life as you find the perfect balance from being cut throat to being “the nice girl”
If Joan says she is going to leave the show if Melissa gets fired one more time im going to snap. How can Donald trump fire whats her name for saying she would come back in the board room if they lost but not fire a senior citizen complaining 24/7. I guess its all for ratings. Go Annie!!!
LOL Abby! you’re such a loser!
Please tell us what she’s done that’s 2 faced. Please!
I know this blog is mostly about the Rivers twins and they are obviously still on the show for entertainment value, but I have a question about the scheme to get Phil to help the other team. I understand that Annie would be upset if Phil actually gave Natalie some money and I understand her furor at the person who put Natalie in touch with Phil. I was surprised that she was mad at Natalie as it was a good idea. I was really surprised that Annie felt the need to say anything about it to Natalie. It seems the failure of the scheme would satisfy my anger in such a case. As it is, Annie is the star of this show. Joan Rivers is surprised and pissed that a very successful professional poker player might be pretty good at playing a personalty/performance game.
Joan, really, IT’S A GAME.
Annie, I forgot to mention, you are fun to watch. I know you are always going to come up with something great. You appear to be the only one left who is actively trying to win. Do any of the others know the show is about raising money? I loved the jewelry auction.
I don’t think you acknowledge your mistakes at all. Somehow you think that your biggest mistake was being naive and trusting, which is just a way of playing the victim. I’ve watched the entire season and you are controlling, manipulative, bossy, and highly uncollaborative. You also need to “steal” the limelight whenever possible. Those are your flaws, Annie. Own them.
CelebrityGirl,
“blah blah blah blah blah”
davidmurphy,
If you re-watch that segment, you will see Annie NOT really mad as she approaches Natalie- she confronts her on the issue and let’s her know she found out about it- look closely. You will see a miffed Annie and imo a somewhat amused Annie as she approaches her. Ppl need to remember how wound up they are while they live in NY for those 6 wks working on this competition. They are mentally and emotionally all wrapped up in it- at least Annie is!
By the way david- love the “Rivers twins” snark!
