+Turkey Meatball Recipe
I am posting the Turkey Meatball recipe because a bunch of people have been asking for it. So here it is!
1 lb ground turkey
¼ pound ground pork
Chopped garlic to taste (about a teaspoon)
I/4 to ½ cup finely chopped mushrooms
½ a yellow onion, chopped
1 cup spinach cut into ribbons
3 large basil leaves, cut into fine ribbons
Salt and Pepper to taste
1 tsp olive oil
Heat olive oil in pan. Sautee onion until just translucent. Add mushroom and garlic and cook down about 3 to 5 minutes more. Add spinach and basil and cook until well wilted, about 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
Put turkey and pork in a bowl. Add cooled mixture and salt and pepper and mix lightly until all the ingredients are well incorporated (do not overwork the meat or it will cook tough).
Form mixture into balls and place on a cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 10 to 15 minutes. Take out of oven and finish in a sautée pan until lightly browned.
I have celiac disease and am so thankful that you mentioned it on national television. I am so impressed with your gluten free turkey meatballs and pasta. What inspired you to make this gluten free? Where did you hear about celiac? I have included a link to your recipe in my blog post about celiac/gluten free on Celebrity Apprentice.
http://glutenfreeoptimist.blogspot.com/2009/04/amazing-awareness-celiac-disease-on.html
97% of people with celiac disease don’t know they have it. People with celiac are so excited at this mention and there were lots of tweets about it last night! Thanks again!
Annie,
I just started watching the show this year and you are by far my favoite member… you are extremely sharp and you’re also smoking hot!
I couldn’t stand Joan or Melissa before the show and I still cant stand either of them. Someone needed to remind them that this show was about charity…not about them! It is Trump’s show, not the Rivers show. I can’t believe they actually threatened to walk out! Walk out on a show you volunteered to participate in for the benefit of charity? Classy act there. Not surprised there. As a sales manager in my own profession, I have seen many like Melissa. She is the type that whines and makes excuses when things are going here way and insists on a constant pat on the back and recognition above any other co-workers.
Anyway, you are awesome!
Thanks Annie!
The gluten-free community is so appreciative of your awareness and that you brought it to TV! That was a very good idea for your team too — congrats on your success so far.
I am predicting that you are going to win Celebrity Apprentice. You are the only possible winner. Emotions run too easily for both Joan & Melissa Rivers, Clint Black seems the type of guy who would look and smile at himself in every mirror he passes, Brande just doesn’t have the brains or dynamics it takes to be a “leader” and Jesse James doesn’t seem to want to step up to the plate and make decisions and doesn’t seem to be what “The Donald” wants in a Celebrity Apprentice. You fit the bill perfectly – strong, opinionated without being emotional about your opinions, intelligent and you have control of this game. Good luck
Oh yeah, excellent choice of turkey meatballs & pasta…. once again – your choice!!
Hey Annie, I think you’re one of the best Apprentice players and castmembers ever. And I’ve been watching the show since day 1. Keep up the good work!
P.S. I’m making these meatballs this weekend.
I doubt anyone cares but actually (and this is a fact) that the ground turkey we buy these days or the sliced turkey you eat for sandwiches, is worse for you than red meat. The turkeys are force fed so many antibiotics that EXPERTS say unless you buy a wild turkey, you are eating garbage that is harmful to your body. Same for chicken- they are bred in extremely tight quarters from the time they are born and they throw out bird feed mixed with antibiotics because these birds all live in their own poop their entire lives and have to eat that poop as they dig down for the bird feed- americans don’t seem to care about where their food really comes from.
annie i am rooting for you but the recipe is laughable and uneducated- the simple fact you put pork (PORK?) in with the turkey (that you think is good for you and it isn’t), it makes the whole recipe laughable- nothing worse for you than pork –
want to eat healthy people? give up meat and find a subsitute that suits your taste buds- many brands out there and one might suit you- i gave up meat years ago and if you go back and eat any at all, you get severe diahrea- that should tell you how bad meat is for you-
want a good meatball recipe that’s easy? use any meat you want (since they are all EQUALLY bad for you) and mix in an egg, a box of stove top stuffing, and any other seasonings you personally prefer (ketchup, chopped onion, etc) fast and easy.
ground turkey is NO MORE healthy for you than red meat. period. sadly people don’t research the crap they are eating-
sorry but pork in your recipe just cracks me up-
I was hoping you’d post this recipe! I am going to make it with all ground pork instead. Not because I am an idiot who thinks turkey is unhealthy (or healthy) but because I like the flavour better.
Annie, you are the best! I follow you on Twitter and I root for you on Celeb. Ap. I actually feel really sorry for Joan and Melissa. They’ve probably never competed for anything in their lives and don’t really know how to handle it. I don’t think they realize how bad they look by acting how they do and getting personal. I honestly pity them.
Anyway, I hope you keep kickin’ tail on C.A. and I hope to see another big win from you at the poker table soon. And I’m gonna try your recipe, too.
Cheers,
Stick
I saw the show last night and the Turkey Meatballs looked delicious!! I’m glad you posted the recipe. Thanks!
You rock Annie! I said from the beginning that you would win Celebrity Apprentice. I can’t wait to see the conclusion and prove to everyone that I was right. Keep taking them down…one at a time.
I defrosted a package of turkey burger before watching the show. Now I’m planning to make dinner using the burger I thought about the show last night. I decided to search for your recipe. I’m very excited and thank you for posting it!!! I will update everyone with my opinion…(less the pork). Fingers-crossed!!!
Thank you so much for mentioning celiac disease on national television!!! It is so exciting and surprising to the gluten free community since 97% of people with celiac disease don’t know they have it. I am so happy you convinced your team to do the gluten free meal and that because of you, a new gluten free frozen meal is now being sold! What inspired you to develop a recipe for gluten free turkey meatballs? Thanks again!!!
I love gluten-free cooking so I plan to make your recipe this week.
Vegas poker, pork is actually pretty healthy these days, they breed it so lean it’s like white meat chicken (and dries out just as fast).
My husband and I are huge fans whether it’s watching the Apprentice or watching you play poker— have to add my husband is keener on the poker
Thanks so much for the gluten-free recipe! I was diagnosed with celiac disease almost 3 years ago just before my 50th birthday. I know what all the “good” food tastes like and there are times when I crave big time. It’s very difficult to find recipes that I can make that the whole crew will eat. I’ll be trying this one for sure!
Kudos to you!!!!
The Turkey Meatballs looked tasty. But your chilli! If Jesse James loved it, I must try it. Please please post your chilli recipe Annie. We love you!
Crene I think you’re thinking of something like pork loin or pork chops, not ground pork which makes sausage and such. We are thinking of 2 different products. In order to make meatloaf or meatballs people normally use ground pork with the chunks of fat in it because it makes the meat more juicy. I just think it’s very easy to come up with a soy/veggie version without resorting to all this meat (if) it’s specifically for a healthy menu. I’m not trying to make an issue of it, I really don’t care one way or the other! I just am disappointed in the recipe, personally. Many varieties of people don’t eat pork. period.
It was probably the best choice for them either way because chili without spaghetti isn’t worth the effort!
Annie-
Many thanks for bringing awareness to celiac disease and the need for gluten-free meal options. When Donald announced the challenge, I thought to myself, “I would develop a gluten-free entree”. Needless, I jumped up clapping when you brought up the idea! And then it WON! =)
Myself, and the many members of the BeFreeForMe website thank you from the bottom of our hearts… and stomachs!

I have to agree with Royce.. Can you post the chili recipe also.
Pssst.. Annie I thought your all women comment was absolutely hilarious. People need to lighten up and enjoy humor for what its intent.
Annie,
Thank you so much for posting this!! I can’t wait for you to post the chili recipe also. I picked you as soon as I saw who was going to be on Celeb Apprentice, I’ve watched you for the past couple of years and have been really impressed with how you handle yourself. Huge kudos to you for not knocking out Joan. I’ve never really liked her or Melissa-and this last episode has cemented why. She is such a primadonna and forgets where she came from. The personal attacks are unfounded and uncalled for, you don’t deserve to be treated like that by anyone.
I called it with my son (he’s 22) that when Natalie tried to get a poker player to go against you, I knew that they wouldn’t. I don’t play well but have watched enough to know that all of you really respect each other. Just the way when you are raising money and your donors don’t send a check they actually show up with CASH in hand! That is so awesome!! I also can’t stand when Joan makes the poker player comments, yes you bluff, etc. but you also congratulate each other even after someone has beaten you in a hand or has busted you in a tournament. Again KUDOS TO YOU FOR BEING THE PROFESSIONAL YOU ARE AND NOT KNOCKING HER OUT LIKE SHE DESERVES!!
I’ve been following you on Twitter, love the updates and loved the video update from the wpt site!! Twit back if you get the chance.
Going to be in Vegas this weekend for our 26th anniversary-maybe I’ll get lucky and get to meet you!!
Good Luck in Apprentice and in upcoming Tournaments <3
Annie,

Lovin you on apprentice, and in poker, I hope one day to meet you and get an autograph! You are far and away the best one on the show too
Sorry you busted out of the recent tourney, I was rooting for you
Have to agree about the turkey meet though unless it is 100% organic and gass fed/open range those animals are grotesquely fed-treated-injected-etc. i’m trying to go all organic/vegetarian in steps, but yeah….kudos on the poster bringing it to our attention
Annie:
Thank you for a wonderful gluten free recipe. I bought it from Schwans today.
After giving up gluten, due to Celiac, I can’t imagine also giving up meat. So bring on the recipes with pork, turkey, chicken and beef.
Pls.. Chili Chili Chili!!! I want me some Chili!!
… I will for sure try the Turkey Balls also….. I love you on The Apprentice!.. As a long time fan of you though poker, when I saw that you were gonna be on The show.. I thought you would be under the radar and overshadowed by more well known players, but you are for SURE the best Player out there and proud of you win or lose.(you better win!) hehe.. Anyways.. love ya, annie and I hope i have a woman that can cook, take care of our children, works hard, and gives a good *BEEEP* Job!! hah ♥
I loved your turkey meatball recipe, it Rocked! And you Rock on The Apprentice too! You are a cool woman, I would ask to play poker with you but I think I’d lose, lol! Just kidding, I would play poker with you anytime, win or lose! Of course I would do just about anything to meet you, just because I love your personality and I think we would be awesome friends!
Vegas poker: there’s a pretty wide variety of local, organic, grass-fed, and antibiotic-free meats these days. Also, you can always buy your own cuts of meat and a meat grinder to grind it yourself so you know exactly what’s going in to your ground turkey/pork/beef etc.
The recipe’s not necessarily “uneducated” merely for its inclusion of ground turkey or ground pork.
Just to let people know most meat subs. have gluten in them. So if you are new to the gluten free life you should take a really close look at the labels, gluten is hidden everywhere.
Dear Annie,
We just tried the turkey meatballs and they were wonderful. I was wondering if we could get the other two recipes that you did on the apprentice also. My husband loves chili and we would love to try your recipe. Good luck on the finale and may God bless you!
Sincerely,
Steve and Cindy Peeler
While I’m sure these are delicious, I was searching for a turkey meatball recipe because my girlfriend doesn’t eat red meat. Doesn’t do much good to have a “turkey” recipe when pork is added. Why add the pork?
