Next Wednesday, I am hosting a tournament at the Hard Rock to benefit Refugees International. I think it is going be such a complete hoot because Frank Marino, Joan Rivers impersonator extraordinaire, is making a special appearance! Expect some Red Carpet shenanigans for sure 
The tournament is a $200 buy-in with rebuys. There will be about 20 Joan Rivers impersonators there, all with bounties on their heads! Red Carpet is at 5pm and the tournament starts at 6pm. I hope everyone can come out, have a blast and support an amazing cause!

The world’s top poker pros, regardless of endorsement deals, are scheduled to play in the UB.net-sponsored charity poker tournament along with over 20 Joan Rivers impersonators.
Miami, FL (PRWeb) May 20, 2009 – Fans of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice may need to do a double take on May 27th after seeing Annie Duke join forces with archrival Joan Rivers at a charity poker tournament in Las Vegas. Leading online poker site UB.net today announced the sponsorship of the Sucking out on the Rivers charity poker tournament in support of Refugees International. UB.net’s own Annie Duke will be hosting the event alongside Frank Marino, a well-known Joan Rivers impersonator, and nearly all of the top poker pros in Vegas are already on board to play in the charity tournament.
“I think that after this poker tournament, the real Joan Rivers will quickly realize that poker players are good-natured people – professional people with respected occupations and families – who really want to change the lives of those less fortunate,” stated Annie Duke. “As poker players, we’re all banding together, not just to prove a point to Joan, but to actually change the world.”
While the charity poker tournament will be co-hosted by a Joan Rivers impersonator, the real Joan Rivers went head-to-head with Annie Duke on the most recent season of Celebrity Apprentice. The often abrasive and brash comedienne told Annie, on camera, that all poker players were white trash and that none of them had last names, suggesting that those who love poker are automatically linked to organized crime.
Rivers’ opinion has drawn the ire of virtually everyone in the poker world, which is made up of doctors, lawyers, accountants, astrophysicists and other professionals. The world’s top poker players and several Hollywood celebrities are slated to play in the charity poker event to show that there’s a lot of good that comes from poker. Over 20 Joan Rivers impersonators will also be playing in the event and each one will have a bounty on his or her head. Poker fans can secure their spot in the tournament for $200 and the No Limit Texas Hold’em tourney features rebuys and add-ons to help the prize pool grow even higher.
100% of the prize money will go to the winner with half of it being directed to charity. While Nevada gaming laws prohibit money being given directly from the prize pool to charity, the winner may volunteer to donate half of their winnings to the charity in keeping with what had been done in previous charity events hosted by UB.net.
The Sucking out on the Rivers Charity Event, sponsored by UB.net, DeepStacks University, Hard Rock Poker Lounge, and WSOP Academy, gets underway on May 27th at 6pm at the Hard Rock Casino Poker Lounge. The event will be preceded by a Red Carpet ceremony at 5pm.

Sorry I took out my annoyance with Mandy (or is it Mindy) and her sniping on you Rooka. It seems she read every topic just to post something disparaging to Annie in multiple places. We all could have posted on NBC.com or the CA blogs. I chose not to because I didn’t want to give them my info. Only posted here because I wanted to let Annie know we support a class act. We watched you in tournaments many times and got a kick out of you and your brother. Reminds me of card games with our family when my dad, a good card counter, was still living. We bet the two of you playing as kids was something to see.
I am not a Joan Rivers fan, but I agree with both Mandy and Tom Greene. You lost, fair and square, taking only 2 out of the 5 criteria for the final challenge. You’ve also taken many, many hits at Joan Rivers yourself, so you are not an innocent victim here. I’d offer the advice to let it go, but given your poker tournament plans it is clear you can’t. I used to really enjoy watching you play poker, and wish you would realize how all of this is changing how many view you. Joan Rivers has nothing on you where your mean streak is concerned.

“Poker players are banding together to actually change the world”….give me a break Annie. Poker players are all about money and nothing else. Nothing wrong with that necessarily, but a rather shallow pursuit and not much of an “occupation” to brag about (especially when you lose more that you win). Anyway, I don’t care about Joan Rivers but your egomanical attitude (“I did this…I did that…I’m so proud of myself…” every minute) made it much easier to enjoy her victory.
I was amazed at the results of this year’s Celebrity Apprentice. To select Joan Rivers over Annie Duke was an insult to the game such as it is and shows what a sham Donald Trump is. Or is he just a lacky to the TV execs. But by selecting Joan they were all basically agreeing with her narrow mindedness and complete lack of personal integrity. To say she won 2 out of 3 is so subjective. The money raised should have counted for more then all the others put together. They only put that out as criteria because Trump/the tv execs had to come up with a desparation ploy for Joan to win.
It is decisions of this nature in business that must be why Trump has had to declare bankruptcy and that a number of his businesses and those he has been connected with have gone under. Here’s hoping that he and the show go under. I know I won’t watch it again and hope that in the year to come that others quit watching it.

I have a feeling that some of these nasty posters are just really bad poker players who probably lost a lot of money….and now take out their anger on successful players. Thats the only reason I can come up with considering they are STILL blathering on and on and on….ad nauseum. Don’t get pissy because Annie came up with using impersonaters to raise money for RI and poke fun at Joan Rivers. She is not being malicious …but she saw the perfect opportunity to promote this charity event.
I just googled Joan Rivers “news”…hmmmmmm, nothing about her hosting a charity event for God’s Love….not today…not last week.Just as I thought… her “involvement” with God’s Love was as phoney as those crocodile tears she shed during her charity’s promo video.
Celebrity Apprentice was biased towards Joan Rivers. The evidence is that she should have been fired as project manager during the jewellery auction episode but instead Nathalie was fired for her jewellery picks which Joan assigned her to. Also Joan came back to the show when she repeatedly mentioned that she would walk away if her bratty daughter Melissa got fired. How annoying were those 2 to handle watching episode after episode — the CIA should consider using watching Joan and Melissa instead of water boarding.
Annie Duke was the obvious winner. And I believe she also holds the record even beating Morgan Piers. She raised almost HALF A MILLION USDs!!! For God’s sake, that is INCREDIBLE!!
The show is about RAISING MONEY, that is what the point of the show is.

My question was not a negative one. I absolutely love this idea. A positive event done with humor. Oh so clever. I love it. My question was a vague (apparently too vague) reference to JR’s comment that ‘her people’ didn’t have last names. For me, that would be just one more thing to giggle about. I was actually hoping this event could have been televised or at the very least receive massive amounts of coverage.

Personally…I’ve met some wonderful people whilst playing poker…and watched some wonderful people (some of above mentioned) play. I find them the salt of the earth type. They would give you the shirts off their backs ( except the ones that say “I’mah Pokaah Playaah”), right there at the table if you needed it.

Hello Everyone – I was one of the “Joan” impersonators at this event. In fact, at 450 lbs – I WON THE COSTUME CONTEST!

Let me start by saying I am a HUGE Joan Rivers Fan. I have worked with her in comedy clubs (YEARS ago) and she has come to see me work in clubs in Atlantic City.
My mother and I watched the Apprentice show and we were both screaming at the TV when Annie lost. (OK, Mom screams louder than I do…She is a HUGE Annie Fan!)
I attended this event for two reasons.
One – to help Refugees International. If all of you would just give $10 to this great cause instead of bitching on here – the world would be a better place for everyone…

The second reason for showing up in full make-up and voice – to meet Annie Duke herself. I have spent years working on stage and TV. I know what goes on behind the scenes when the cameras stop rolling. It is a completely different world. I know what the TV media can “paint” a person to be – they look for “characters” – and I wanted to see for myself what kind of person Annie is (I know what kind of person Joan is – she truly has a heart – she just sometimes voices her opinions a bit loudly – you know what they say – “The Squeeky wheel gets the grease!”) – Besides, she IS an “Elder” in our world – she has seen a lot and experienced a lot.
I got the chance to watch Annie “work” the room – I watched her like a hawk. I was just waiting for that “Ego” to step out and start pushing people away. After all – this is just a fund raiser and it does NOTHING for her!
Ladies and Gentlemen – the woman is a true saint in my books. I was amazed (even after HOURS of smiling and posing for all sizes of cameras) this woman STILL treated each person with respect and gave them her full attention. I don’t know how she did it. I even asked her for an autograph for my Mother – she smiled and ASKED HER NAME!?!? NO ONE IN VEGAS DOES THAT ANYMORE! She took the time to autograph it WITH A MESSAGE to my mother!
The woman is PURE CLASS – I saw this class on TV, and I witnessed it in person.
If you actually MET both of these woman, and you understand the situation, you would find good qualities in both. Annie has her age going for her – at such a young age, she is truly a Lady.
Period.
Please folks, support her cause. That’s what it was all about. The “Joan’s” was a great ATTENTION GETTER and raised awareness for her cause. It’s called “Marketing” and “Advertising”…
