Annie Duke. Professional Poker Player

My interview with The TV Guide Channel

On Monday I went in and did an interview with the TV Guide Channel. Here it is since I am assuming most people didn’t catch it. Funnily enough, that channel happens to be where Joan and Melissa last did their Red Carpet stuff before they got fired. Needless to say, the folks over there are not that fond of them lol.

  1. Kathy says:

I like poker and Annie. That being said I don’t think Annie “deserved” to win. Going into the final task they were told by Donald that there would be 5 criteria used when determining the winner. When it counted most, Joan won three and Annie only two. Makes it easy to call the winner.

  2. Tony Walker says:

All of the comments above are exactly how I feel, “The Donald” pissed me off before in the original version, now I will no longer watch Celebrity Apprentice also. You won be such a large margin (Joan & daughter should have been eliminated earlier), and I’m impressed at how you handled so many situations without losing it. I hope the shows treatment of you and a few others was to get ratings, but I will never watch anything that has to do with Joan, Melissa, Clint, or the Donald ever again. Good Luck Annie, you are GREAT!

  3. Shelley says:

    Annie,
You are the bomb when it comes to poker, but when it came to playing this game, you double talked and back stabbed. Joan was more upfront than you. And the TV guide thing on your website, you said “THEY” got fired, only Melissa was, it was obvious for all the world to see it was personal with her, from an objective standpoint. I work in a cutthroat industry, high pressure stress, but don’t ever let it get personal, and I think that is why you lost, and deserved to lose. Remember everyone was watching the episodes week to week. Nothing personal against you, Its great to see a women be a great Mom and a top poker player, especially in a Mans world, I hope you continue to kick but in that arena, but was dissapointed in your behavior.

  4. Theresa says:

Ugh…that’s about all I can say. I’ve never seen someone so conniving, egotistical, controlling, and abrasive. What a narcissistic sociopath! I am amazed at how perfect you are at everything you try to do. Pride is a sin, and you are over the top. My husband is a professional poker player and I was rooting for you in the beginning, then your true colors came out. What a shame. Joan wasn’t the nicest person, but at least she said it to your face and not behind your back (as you did). The phone calls on the last episode were pathetic. Shame on you Annie. Move on and get over it. You were trumped!

  5. John says:

I think you went through a lot of personal attacks as you said on the show and I can’t help but know that you lost due to a popularity contest with a hell on wheels. Last season Piers Morgan won by the money but now it apparently is who can try to intimidate the Donald more. All I can say is YOU should have won and seeing what the show has turned into I don’t think I’ll be watching anymore seasons of Trump personal politics. YOu hung in there and honestly I never heard of you before but I was your biggest fan in the board room and it was too apparent how one sided things were. I saw the fear on the faces of the other celebrities knowing they should pick Joan over you while knowing better and I am sure Melissa would have weeded out swift justice if they hadn’t. I wish you the best and too bad the FBI won’t investigate the heist of the century because you got robbed.

  6. Fran says:

Annie should have won hands down. She played the game the way it is supposed to be played. Trump has been friends with Joan for years…he already had his mind made up for Joan. Joan continued to put Annie down and when Annie stood up for herself Trump dismissed her.
If Joan was able to keep her mouth shut from putting Annie down maybe I would think differently but Annie has CLASS that Joan will never have.

  7. CAMILLE Gravallese says:

Annie……….you were fabulous. I have never written to anyone, movie star, tv personality, etc. I am a 72 yr old woman and feel that you were robbed. I am not a follower of the show, however did get caught up in the dynamics.

I was and am still shocked at the results, the insults, and for a jewish woman to call your friends mafia………again (I am of Italian decent and resent the constant derogatory remarks)
making such reference to people who play poker in a disgusting way. Better you should be a whining, lying, prima donna, who insults people and think they can get away with it. I am appalled by what I saw. Thank you for being such a brilliant woman (which I don’t think the rivers team realize) YOU PERFORMED BRILLIANTLY, sorry that Trump screwed up soooooo badly.

I brought up 4 kids (alone with no money) then took care of a very sick mother and father at home
till they died. So I don’t have to many heroes.
You are one of my HEROES. WHAT A WOMAN, BRILLIANT, FUNNY, HARDWORKING AND A GREAT POKER PLAYER.

  8. Scott says:

Annie I just wanted to echo what most of the people have said. You were PHENOMENAL on Celebrity Apprentice and were truly robbed in the end. I too lost any respect I had for Trump. He kept Joan on for the ratings and fixed the final outcome. It was a disgrace and I will never watch C.A. ever again.

I never watched the regular one and now will never bother with the Celebrity edition. The only good thing about the whole show was getting to know you (sorta speak). You and Brande were great together and even though it is just a TV Show, I am still aggravated about it. lol.

It was such a sham. Joan and Melissa are hideous human beings. We all know all the sad things that happened like you getting booed for telling the truth (about Joan losing the Event Planner) and all that so I won’t re-hash all of it but rest assured, I don’t even watch Poker to be honest but you definitely gained myself and many, many more fans with you doing this Show. Too bad Donnie lost SO many in the process. Good Luck and continued success in the future.

  9. Nancy says:

So Annie, you made all your nasty comments (and there were plenty of them) about Joan behind her back. Joan made all her nasty comments about you to your face. I ask you…who’s worse??

  10. Mary Ann says:

The Donald & his staff on the show had that rigged as soon as they got the OK that Joan would be on the show. SHE was going to be the winner from day one, NO ones kidding us about it either, NO one. You are from the Live FREE or Die State, right Annie???!!! YOU already won!!!! That Joan lost me as a fan & I thought she was awesome when her & her daughter were on the stage for the AARP in Boston,NOT any more after what she pulled…NO way hozay, she’s an imbecile in my book, NOW more than ever…God Bless You Annie, See you in Vegas Someday Soon!!!

  11. Russell says:

Annie I know you were under attack by Joan but think about Jessie if he would of been in the finals and his wife would of bid on anything at a high dollar amount people would of said he won only because of her. With dennis statement about her making 20 million per film. Look at what he makes and all his friends make As Jessie said he was just a blue collar worker who makes money by the sweat of his brow Trump got on Jessie about telling Dennis was to stupid to see he cared enuff for him to want to see him get help But never called Joan down when she would not let you speak and she always called him Donald PS YOUR THE WINNER IN MY EYES

  12. Angie says:

I want some of those bobble heads for husbands target practice! I am now a fan of the TV Guide Channel!

  13. Rhonda says:

Annie, in my opinion the outcome could have gone either way. I could see the hard work that was done by both you and Joan.

However, if this were a real job and I had to work with you — I would definately QUIT!! Even though you did a good job at some of the tasks, most of the folks on your team(s) did not like you and felt you were VERY BOSSY and rude. I know and understand what Joan was saying about you.

Clearly you are a bright and beautiful woman but you really did no favors for yourself by showing yourself to be obsessed with besting the Rivers women. I don’t think any company would want you backstabbing your way through their boardrooms.

Its time to get over yourself!

  14. Rick says:

It’s Hollywood style stuff. The only reason has-been celebrities would support the hostile tasteless actions of Joan on TV is because of what they think it could do for them later. Hey, Joan might help me get time on the red carpet, Annie is just a poker player without the Hollywood pull…I better support Joan so she gets me more TV time later! I think it’s funny that anyone would justify Joan’s “nasty” comments, to the face, behind the back or whatever…nasty is nasty.

  15. Judy says:

Annie, I must say this is the first tv show I have ever gotten into. My co-worker got me to watch it because she said you reminded her of me. I’m a take charge, get it done type of person. If a task needs to be done I have no tolerance for slackers. I don’t cry easily in front of others but my passions and compassions run deep. How you put up with the personal attacks is beyond me. You showed you have class and I commend you for that. I never cared for Joan Rivers and I REALLY can’t stand her now. As for Donald Trump I think you intimidated him and he was scared to hire you because you would show him up and that he was scared Joan Rivers would try to ruin him. Keep up the good work and best wishes to you and your family.

  16. Terry B says:

It’s strange that people can see the same show and end up with different opinions Annie you were great! You were classy! You beat the old bag in the amount of money raised for charity. Joan should be red faced for her actions and for raising someone like her daughter (mirror image of herself) Ugly people both of them

  17. Elise says:

I totally agree with the mass…Annie should have won the Celebrity Apprentice. I will not watch future shows, what a joke to choose Joan after what she did (and really didn’t do). Annie raised so much more money (remember last season, had to go with Piers Morgan because he raised so much more) This is BS and I will not be watching any more C.A. Melissa Rivers will be in bad shape once Mommy is gone…really bad way to raise a brat. I can’t believe she isn’t embarrassed over her “exit.” David “the decorator” even went on Barbara Walters radio station stating he would not work with that woman (Joan) and how awful, so it was definitely Joan’s fault the decorators/party planners quit.

  18. Laura says:

You so deserved to win Annie. You were amazing all season, hands down! It lead me to believe the whole season was rigged. Joan did nothing but sit back with her cat-like face and make underhanded statements. Her and Melissa need “couples” therapy. Anyway, your kids, friends and family are probably really proud of you and that’s all that matters. Those of us with a brain see the truth.

  19. Pam says:

Annie, as far as I’m concerned, you are the apprentice winner! It was obvious just by how trump treated you vs. his pathetic, evil Joan that this was rigged. She was to be the winner from the start. And after what I witnessed on that show I will never watch it again. I will never watch anything associated with Joan Rivers or Trump again. You did a fantastic job and did not deserve to be treated that way by Joan and Trump. They’re the losers as far as I’m concerned. Joan a role model? Role model for whom… Satan?

Annie, I wish you all the best. And if Trump still owns any casino’s, I know I’ll be sure to take my money elsewhere. Take care.

  20. Donna says:

Annie, you are amazing and never had a chance
at winning because I think Trump planned to
give it all to Joan from the beginning. He
knew what a jerk she and her daughter were and
    they performed for his amusement.
Well, the rest of us weren’t amused.
Hold your head high because you WON over a
bunch of phonies who think they are bigger than
    life itself.
You are one very classy lady.

  21. Nancy says:

    Annie,

Congratulations, you won the Apprentice in my eyes. Being a business owner, I appreciated how you handled the game with the same strategy that makes you successful at poker. I had no idea who you were when you started the game, but I do appreciate your endurance, fighting spirit and ability to rally supporters and generate money for the charities.

It is my hope and prayer that you let the Rivers women actions and words roll off your back. I have absolutely no respect for either of those women, Melissa was never brought up with manners, that is too blatantly obvious, and Joan, well, you can see what dementia and her lack of self worth has done to her mentally and physically.

Good Luck in your career, future endeavors and again, Congratulations, you are the true winner of the game.

PS, I will never watch any show Trump produces in the future. What a slap to us small business owners and blue collar workers. Sham, Sham, Shame.

  22. Larry says:

Annie, I wish we all had your class. You were smarter and harder working, but most of all you were respectful. I don’t care where you are from, everyone deserves respct. We love you! The difference between Joan and yourself is that she won the show and you are a winner

  23. George says:

This was a setup from day one! Anne had the class and the performance advantage, joan had the Donald in her hip pocket. The 5 things they judged the final on were wieghted to suit jr. Subjective and unverifiable makes for easy manipulation and rationalization for cheating Anne out of her obvious win.

The people who support j&mr try to recall what mr said after being fired. She told staffers that she was ‘lied to’ about what? Getting to go all the way with momma? Take a close look at the mean spirited duo if you can watch any of the episodes again. The fix was in and everyone knows it, Trump lost SO MUCH respect, and a huge number of viewers, we watched almost all of the previous shows, but never again.

  24. gabie says:

you were robbed of the title. I think Mr. Trump let his friendship with that mummy aka. Joan to blind him in his decision. Any logical person would never call a quitter a winner. If you ever see that hag or that horse face of a daughter you should slap them, not for revenge or because you are a sore loser but simply because you would be doing the world a favor. YOU ROCK ANNIE! i hope to meet you one day.

  25. Eddie G says:

Annie, I hope you are hearing what the people are saying. We all know that you are the real WINNER!!!! Donald and Joan now have an image problem. The quack and the prune! I, too, will never watch that show again! I feel sorry for Melissa because she is supposed to support her mother. It’s not her fault how she was raised. Joan is a LOSER and is there a plastic surgeon out there in L.A. that can do something about that perma-crease on her face?

  26. joe says:

What all the defenders of Joan fail to realize is that there is a huge difference between pointing out actual things that someone said or did, as Annie did, and making blanket derogatory statements about someone’s character and their friends, as Joan did.

Anyone that knows anything about business would hire Annie to run their company over Joan, hands down. Annie may have a slightly confrontational, direct management style, but she knows want she wants, is highly productive and she gets results.

  27. Vickie B says:

Annie you amazed me with not only your tremendous ability to handle all the tasks with energy, commitment and determination, but with your true grace under fire. I was really disturbed by the way Joan Rivers was allowed to verbally assault you viciously episode after episode. It was like some bizarre alternate reality when she called YOU a liar in the boardroom of the final episode. I was flabbergasted that Donald Trump took her side. I have admired him for his cool business head but he really lost all objectivity with this (or else it was simply a calculated decision for Rivers to win, probably both). Her attacks were unprovoked, wild, vicious, and even seemed pathological. You, on the other hand, handled yourself with poise and class. I have great respect for you and think YOU, certainly not Joan Rivers, are the positive role model. Good luck in the future!

  28. Adam says:

Annie, needless to say you absolutely won the competition. You raised more $$$ by a substantial margin and, although they claim that Rivers won 2 of the other 4 categories, I am not sure I believe that.

It should not come as a suprise that Joan Rivers was given the nod in the boardroom.

In light of Trumps ugly battle with Rosie last year, he was AFRAID of crossing Joan. Lets face it, Joan Rivers can do more bad publicity and hurt Trump much more than Annie Duke.

The same should be said for all of the other celebrities on the show. River has the public forum to damage their popularity.

So, when you look at it, Trump could always fall back on the 3-2 margin in the final task. He is a coward.

You were a true champion, up to the end. Congrats on a job well done.

  29. Harry Endres says:

Hi Annie, I have not played poker with you yet but maybe later :) . I lost all respect for trump since as the 3 hour show started I could see what was happening. Now first the comments from him and all “oh your just a poker player” has me disgusted . Most those mopes never played it and know nada and have no reason to make that statement. Rivers and crew showed no respect for anyone and trump let then run all over him for ratings on last show that will backfire . I cannot tell you the people I know that will not watch trumps show next year he threw himself under the bus with the likes of the most low life mother and daughter crew I will never want to meet. I asked all my poker friends not to buy anything the wind bag rivers advertizes and my wife already wrote Kodak etc. I will go on rec.poker and ask the same. I have a web site I placed above because it wanted one and am an author in Gamblers Book Club Vegas although it has nothing to do with poker lol. It was the most raised money until they(trump show) seen that rivers had no one to back her up or give much money so they created the last show so they had other reasons to make you fail. Everyone knows you won everyone believes something was set up ahead. You got cold decked in last three hours of show. Your friends are the greatest!!! Regards, Harry Endres. Ps. rivers and michael jackson sort of look alike don’t you think? :)

  30. Brenda W. says:

    Annie,

I am sorry and disappointed you were not chosen as the Apprentice because you were clearly the winner in every aspect. I am most especially disappointed in the way in which Trump treated you. I would normally have said Mr. Trump, but given the circumstances, he doesn’t deserve that courtesy or respect. I will not be watching the Apprentice again, or anything else that Trump may come up with. However, I will be watching for you, Annie, because you are incredible!
As for the Rivers duo…. Puleez darlings let up and shut up!!!!!!!

  31. Jennings Flippen says:

You beat her so bad it wasn’t even funny!! I was surprised Trump didn’t have the balls to pick you as Apprentice!! I would have loved to see you get in her face and read her the riot act!!!She loves to disparage people and when it’s returned pull the who me-poor me act!! Good luck at the tables!!~

  32. Mindy says:

P.s Im sure you will delete this as soon as you can you would not want anyone skrewing up your good job comments:)

  33. Jerry says:

    Annie,

You were robbed. To all of those people who thought you were too pushy and bossy, they haven’t managed a project under pressure and time constraints..you did fine. I was stunned by the outcome. Trump needs to get out and let the kids do the show, they have more common sense. As for those two bitches they owe you and others an apology. The old hag sounded like a blithering idiot….no wonder the designer quit.

  34. jen says:

You played the game very well. But I think the decision was right that Joan should have won. You are a great competitor, fierce and you play hard. But you let her get to you and you kinda took on what she was saying about you. It seems like she beat you with your own tactics.

Also, you didn’t seem as passionate about your charity as Joan was about hers. She was really playing for them. You seemed kinda shady in that area to tell the truth.

You should have just let it go when they were fighting with you but you fought with Joan the very same way she fought with you, if not worse cause it was very passive aggressive. You seemed to be struggling on the last show. From the beginning of the task you seemed to be floundering and it looked like you honestly didn’t want it that bad whereas Joan kinda let go and didn’t feel the NEED for it, but just played, gave it her all in the last task and focused totally on her charity.

    my two cents.

  35. Dave says:

  36. Georgette says:

I feel Donald blew it. You were a much better overall player than Joan. I almost didn’t watch it this year because I couldn’t stand her and now it is even more. Every show she has been on since she won I turn right off because as far as I am concerned you are the winner!! Hold your head up. You did an awesome job

  37. Larry Crider says:

Anyone without some agenda knows Annie clearly won Celebrity Apprentice even before the finals with Joan. In fact she clobbered the competion so bad that Trunp made sure she could not win the final. Annie raises almost a 1/2 Million and only gets 20% credit for the final result?

I thought this show was about raising Charity, not who makes Lodak look the best?

What a mess Trump has made of this show. I hope they cancel it after this complete setup of a Joan win.

    Go Annie! :)

  38. Larry Crider says:

I guess I should spell check ha ha

I mean I thought this show was about raising charity, not about making Kodak look good :)

Change the rules Trump to suit your agenda, if you did this last year Pierce would have lost :)

  39. Sally says:

Hi Annie, count me as one who feels YOU WON on the Celebrity Apprentice. Of course I knew Trump was going to crown Joan about 3 shows from the finale. To his shame, what he gave her was his job. Every board room it was “What do you think Joan” and then she would be off on a hateful tangent while he smiled. If this was to be for ratings, it backfired with me. I can’t watch the show anymore. Once someone hurls the F bomb, or calls someone else “Hitler” it should be an auto-loss. If names don’t matter to Trump, from now on I’ll call him Baldy.

  40. Ted says:

Ill keep it simple. As far as i’m concerned you won, it was clearly evident especially with the sheer amount of money you raised for your charity. Can’t beat the numbers. Thanks for stepping up.

  41. Yvonne A. Beebe says:

I don’t share the opinions of most of these bloggers. Joan won because she showed emotion, heart and feelings. She actually worked at her charity. You didn’t win because you were cut-throat. If I had a dollar for everytime you said “I”…I could go on vacation. You are so full of yourself and focused on yourself, that you can’t see what people are doing or saying around you. No one would want to work for you because they would never get praised for “their” work, it would somehow become “your” work, and they would always wonder when the stab in the back would come. It’s a good thing you are a poker player, because you could not run a company and be successful. I didn’t like Joan when the show started, I like her now because she showed a soft side, was emotional and actually cared. You were a wild card and I gave you a chance but each week you showed your true colors…it was all about you and only you. I think it ended the way it should have; I just think Jesse should have been there with Joan and not you.

  42. Charlotte says:

Annie you are gutzy and smart. Re-watch the show — you are also disrespectful, dishonest and disloyal. The truth is in the tapes and the side comments you throw out along with the nasty disrespectful actions to people you clearly feel are inferior.

Joan Rivers is your elder, she deserves respect regardless of her own actions. Do you teach your children to treat their elders that way? Shame on you. Let your children watch every episode without you commenting and see if you feel a tad bit embarassed in front of your children.

No one is always right, no one is always the best, no one is always above everyone else — not even you.

This show could have been your shining and defining moment —- instead it will always be a mistake!

  43. Innovation Apprentice says:

FWIW, did you know The Apprentice show had to settle an age discrimination lawsuit? Picking Joan puts an end to that line-of-attack.

Also, Joan is better at working crowds and sales which is one of the jobs a Trump Apprentice winner. Also, Joan is a comedian and if you look at past Apprentice results, The Donald doesn’t like to piss-off the press or people who might have a forum to criticize him, and Joan, as we saw, can tear someone down if it is in her interest. Did The Donald really want Joan saying she was robbed and mistreated for years in comedy acts and TV shows all across the county?

The real metric is money and Annie you nailed it! The fact that there were 5 criteria states that they wanted wide latitude in making the choice. The Donald has not really liked having to pick the winner just because one side got spanked in raising money in the finale. Yet, in almost every task, when a team gets lapped in money they lose. But in this case, Joan did very well raising money, but Annie and her team just hit a full house on the river in terms of money.

Annie, I hope you and your team build on this win-win for charity.

    Well done!

  44. Dave says:

Joan didn’t deserve to win full stop. She didn’t raise much money at all (for charity) during the duration of the entire show, and her attitude was completely immature and unprofessional – with vicious personal attacks being the norm (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnNmJ7lKCm0 ). Hell, she even quit (remember, trump has always HATED quitters with a passion)… but no, of course she get’s let back in with open arms – as was her daughter who had the most hateful and unprofessional exit in the history of the show.

You could tell all throughout the series that trump had a soft spot for Joan, especially during the last challenge. He immediately downplayed the fact that Annie absolutely squashed (SQUASHED) Joan in terms of money raised, with Annie earning $465,000 for charity, compared to Joan’s measly $150,000. He also managed to divert the blame onto Annie for the designers quitting… umm what? We saw the whole thing unfold trumpy, open your eyes (hell, even the edited version couldn’t make Joan look good).

And here’s the biggy, Blaine Trump (Donald’s sister in law) is on the Board of directors for Joan’s charity, and has been long before celebrity apprentice has been around, see: http://www.godslovewedeliver.org/about_directors.html.

In addition, note from 1995 exert – “After Board Members Joan Rivers and Blaine Trump participate in Groundbreaking Ceremony, God’s Love We Deliver moves into new home on World AIDS Day, Dec 1st.” source: http://www.godslovewedeliver.org/about_history.html

The Trump family, as well as Donald, have a long history of friendship with the Rivers household and with Joan in particular.

I’ve been a long time fan on Apprentice, but seriously, this season – in particular the final episode, was a complete disgrace. If this wasn’t a display of blatant favoritism then I don’t know what is.
